The Ballista (or "Crossbow") is a boss of the Castle, seemingly built by the knights to defend it from the player. After 1 turn, it will attack and inflict Confusion 3 onto the player (which immediately drops down to Confusion 2).

Multiple weak knights will join the fight as it progresses, and will take 60 damage from by fired bolts if they are hit.



Behavior

The boss will fire a ballista bolt every 5 turns (indicated by the loading of the bolt on the last turn), dealing a hefty 30 damage and applying Confusion for two turns. Any enemies in the path of the Ballista will take 60 damage too.

Every turn, a weak knight will be summoned with 50 health (62 on C10+). They serve as meat shields to block damage that would be delt to the Ballista itself. Upon attacking the player, they will fall over and instantly die, dealing 7 damage.




Strategies

  • The triangular shape of the pegboard can reduce the average bounce of each orb.
  • Attacks will take a few turns to charge up, allowing the player to deal lots of damage before being attacked.
  • Having Overflow, enemy targeting, or piercing orbs to help manage the weak knights can help greatly, as can bombs.
  • Using Round Guard and discarding orbs every few rounds can make this fight rather easy since if played right the boss can deal 0 damage with the bolt (Using Ambidextionary makes it much easier to manage).
  • There are only 25 weak knights, so if you can survive 6 Ballista shots (180 damage), the Ballista will run out of minions and be left vulnerable.


Trivia

  • Even if the bolt damage is blocked with the Round Guard relic, confusion still persist possible bug?.
